Gatwick Airport Evacuated After WW2 Smoke Shells Discovered

Thursday 31st January 2008

A part of Gatwick Airport had to be evacuated yesterday when smoke shells dating from the Second World War were discovered. It was also necessary for a passenger aircraft to be moved as well in order to let the bomb disposal team carry out the safe destruction of the devices.

The discovery of the devices seemed to be causing some mystery with a Gatwick spokseperson quoted as saying "The airport is only 50 years old so it's something of a mystery why these Second World War shells were found."
