Co-Pilot Suffers Nervous Breakdown During Flight
Wednesday 30th January 2008A flight heading to Heathrow Airport has had to make an emergency landing after the co-pilot suffered what is described as a 'nervous breakdown.'
The aircraft, a Boeing 767 with 180 passengers aboard was diverted to Shannon due to the drama. One of the passengers claims they saw the co-pilot being carried into the passenger cabin in restraints after reports of him talking loudly to himself and acting strangely.
The passenger went on to explain, "He was very very distraught. He was yelling loudly at times. When they tried to put his shoes on later he swore and he threatened people."
A statement from Air Canada says that at no time was safety compromised and the failsafe policy they operated meant the pilot was perfectly capable of landing the aircraft on his own. The landing went without incident and did not even require the emergency services leaving their garages.
