TUI Announce Closure Of Shops
Tuesday 29th January 2008TUI have made the announcement that they intend to close around 100 of their 1,100 UK based shops. The closure has come about after the group merged with First Choice Holidays.
The closures will occur in areas where there are more than one shop or in areas that there are a single shop but it is non-profitable. Following the announcement Thomsonfly staff have expressed their concern after their union Unite has begun discussions with TUI. Unite has asked staff at Thomsonfly if they will support a full strike due to TUI failing to guarantee that there would not be any cumpulsory redundancies.
The vote for strike action is expected on Wednesday 30th January 2008. If staff vote for action then it will occur in the next 28 days with the unio obliged by law to give seven days notice of the action taking place.
