BHA Boss Causes Outrage Claiming British Tourism Workers Are 'Unemployable'

Tuesday 15th January 2008

The boss of the BHA (British Hospitality Organisation) Bob Cotton has caused outrage by claiming that British tourism workers are 'unemployable' and that Central European Immigrants were the best source of labour that the industry had had in 100 years.

Cotton claims that local British workers had no motivation and did not wish to work for more than 15 hours per week otherwise they would lose benefits. Cotton went on to claim however that Polish workers were happy to work 50 hours a week if so required.

In response to the comments Plaid Cymru MP Adam Price hit back at Cotton saying, "The problem isn't that British workers can't do the job, it's that this sector pays a pittance not a living wage. It is utterly unsustainable to rely on foreign labour that will one day dry up."

Recent figures released indicate that 1.2 million of BHA's staff are from overseas out of a total staff number of 1.8 million. Figures also show that 83% of the BHA's staff working in London out of 350,000 in total are migrants.
