Coke Smuggling Can Be Deadly
Tuesday 15th January 2008Belfast Telegraph reporter Deborah McAleese has been compiling a special report on the growing problems of Coke smuggling into Belfast International Airport.
Many people who use drugs do not think how they have ended up on the streets and available for them to purchase. The truth is quite shocking and may change your mind about taking them if you knew.
Drug 'mules' as they are often described is the name given to the individuals that smuggle the drugs into the country. Convential methods are not always going to work for the drug mules so what do they resort to? Well hiding the drug inside their body is the new trick.
Drugs being hidden inside the body is a growing problem amongst drug mules at Belfast Airport with recent statistics indicating that five of the last six seizures have been drugs inside a persons body.
The process is seriously dangerous as a packet splitting would mean almost certain death for the individual. The packets are usually hidden either in the stomach by swallowing or in the rectal or vaginal areas. When the packets are discovered insde a persons body they are usually sent to hospital to attemp to ensure the packets do not burst.
