Pilots Flying Into London City Warned Of Magnetic Interference
Friday 11th January 2008Pilots flying into London City Airport have been warned that their instruments may be affected by magnetic interference due to metal under the airport runway.
A survey was made on the airport runway after an aircraft had to abort its landing at the airport when on final approcah the aircrafts systems failed. The survey uncovered metal structures under the runway that had not been removed from the days when the area was a dock.
After the aborting of the landing by the Raytheon Hawker aircraft London City Airport said it would take all measures necessary to remove the problem whilst the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) have launched a full investigation.
