Chip Shop Lottery Winner Jailed For Missing Court Date
Thursday 10th January 2008A chip shop-worker who scooped £1million on a scratch card in October has been jailed for 14 days after flying off on holiday instead of giving evidence in court.
Leah Sumray was arrested at Bristol Airport as she returned from the Canary Islands after being issued with a warrant after missing the court date. The 21-year-old appeared before Judge Christopher Elwen for contempt of court.
The judge informed her that her evidence could have had a significant bearing on the case and at no point prior to the trial had she given any indication that she could not attend.
