Birmingham Airport Plan Runway Extension

Thursday 10th January 2008

Birmingham Airport have announced their wish to extend their runway, and have made a request for planning permission to lengthen it by 400 metres, thus allowing aircraft to carry more fuel for longer journeys.

The extension of the runway would allow aircraft to carry the fuel necessary to fly to destinations such as Japan, Australia and California which currently can only be reached by changing flights or using an alternative UK airport.

The runway is also seen as important for business as several business leaders have stated that the runway must have this capacity if the regional is to be able to compete on an equal footing commercially.
