Cigarette Smuggling Attempt Foiled At East Midlands Airport
Thursday 3rd January 2008Four males were detained by customs officers at East Midlands Airport last week after attempting to smuggle £140,000 of cigarettes into the UK.
This latest attempt is only a couple of weeks after 120,000 cigarettes were discovered on passengers on another flight at the same airport.
When asked about the latest haul a Detection Manager for East Midlands Airport stated “We hope this second seizure of smuggled cigarettes in just over a week sends a clear and powerful message to would-be criminals that we have successful and effective teams of customs officers working at regional airports.”
