Nineteen UK Airports To Lift Hand Baggage Restrictions
Thursday 3rd January 2008It has been announced that nineteen airports around the UK are to lift their hand luggage restrictions in light of what is deemed an lower security risk than this time last year for example. It is important to remember however that some airports in the UK will not be lifting their restrictions so you must check before setting off to the airport if your airport is one of those lifting or keeping the restrictions in place.
The government has warned however that even if your airport has lifted the hand luggage restrictions the final decision is with the airline you are travelling with and we strongly urge you to contact your airline before travel regardless of the airport you are travelling from.
In order to make you aware of the current airports that will be lifting their restrictions, (however your particular airline may still keep them in place at these airports) we have compiled a list below of them:
- Aberdeen
- Benbecula
- Birmingham
- Cambridge
- Cardiff
- Edinburgh
- Glasgow
- London Heathrow
- Inverness
- Islay
- Kirkwall
- London City
- Manchester
- Plymouth
- Prestwick
- Southampton
- Southend
- London Stansted
- Stornaway
- Sumburgh
- Wick
Currently if your airport is not listed then you should expect exactly the same restrictions in place that have been at UK airports since the 2006 terrorist bombings in London.
IMPORTANT: Please note that even if you are travelling to an airport listed above that has lifted its hand luggage restrictions and your airline too has lifted them you should still expect exactly the same restrictions on liquids that have been in place since 2006. This requires all passengers to take no more that 100ml of liquid aboard any flight, this remains completely unchanged throught the UK.
