Smuggled Carp Seized At Eurotunnel
Wednesday 2nd January 2008UK inspectors from the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) have uncovered 45 live carp weighing nearly 35lb each being smuggled from France to the UK.
The driver of the vehicle containing the fish was interviewed where it became clear that the fish were being imported without any certification which is mandatory under the Fish Health Regulations 1997.
The lack of health documentation meant that the fish had to be humanely slaughtered as they could potentially cause disease problems to UK fish.
