London Ambulance staff respond on bicycles

A trial scheme of London ambulance staff responding to calls on bicycles at Heathrow Airport has been made permanent.

The trial scheme which was introduced in October 2004 has been successful.

The cycling response team receive over 400 calls a month at Heathrow and cover the coach station (the busiest in the UK), two train services and the stations involved and all 5 terminals.

The now permanent team of 14 will work between 5.20am to 11.00pm.
