Scottish airports have varied success.

Edinburgh airport figures last month showed a 3.9% rise in passenger traffic, while other Scottish airports saw figures drop.

Edinburgh airport received an Easter boost according to owner BAA but Glasgow and Aberdeen airports saw passenger numbers fall by 11.6% and 10.7% respectively.

The competition commission ordered BAA to put either Glasgow or Edinburgh airport up for sale in an effort to curb the group's dominance over the market.

Ferrovial, owner of BAA, operates seven airports in Britain and reported a 2.3% decrease in passenger traffic to 11.5 million since April 2008. The March figures showed an 11.3% drop since last year, explained by the late arrival of Easter, according to BAA.

At the start of the month, BAA announced that their losses have increased nearly six-fold from £55.6m to £316.2m despite an increase in revenues by 15.5%.
