Air Berlin celebrates 30th anniversary

Air Berlin reached its 30th anniversary this month, fighting through the economic downturn.

The German carrier has expanded steadily over its 30 year past and now carries 30 million passengers a year, making it Germany's second largest airline after Lufthansa.

The airline's route map now extends across the globe, with a range of destinations including New York, Miami, Bangkok and the Maldives.

Stansted airport has joined in celebrations on the 30 years of passenger service for Air Berlin.

Commercial and development director at London Stansted, Nick Barton, said the airport was "delighted" to see the airline reach the 30 year marker.

He went on to say: "Air Berlin pride themselves on offering low fares with allocated seating, complimentary refreshments, child discounts and a generous 20kg luggage allowance, which have always been extremely popular offerings to business and leisure passengers."

Air Berlin further expanded their network with the introduction of a new route from Berlin to Oslo this week.
