Christmas Misery At Airports

Thursday 27th December 2007

Many hundreds of passengers spent a miserable Christmas stuck at airports and hotels after fog caused disruption for many flights leaving the UK.

Despite the fog clearing after a short period the back-log of flighs created many delays which the airports struggled to make up. A BA spokesperson had the following to say regarding the delays, "Some transferring passengers are still in hotels but that is clearing quickly. Some of their destinations are long-haul with flights only two or three times a week."

The union GMB has accused the airports of using weather as an excuse for the Christmas delays, they said, "This time of year if there is even a minor disruption, airlines and the handling companies that work for them are unable to cope because they run too many flights with too few staff. Simple as that."

The backlog has now begun to clear however some have had a Christmas that they would probably wish to forget in 2007.
