Brand new route from Heathrow to Seattle

Thursday 26th March 2009

Icelandair plans to open a new route between Heathrow and Seattle this summer.

Flights will go from Heathrow to Reykjavic, stopping off at the capital at no extra cost to the passenger.

A Manchester to Seattle service is also due to open, with a compulsory overnight stopover in Iceland.

Flights will leave the London Hub four times a week, running from July 22 on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays leaving from Heathrow at 13:00 and arriving at their American destination at 16:45 Seattle local time.

Alaska Airlines flights can then forward passengers on to western US and Canadian destinations including Anchorage, Calgary, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Vancouver.

Return flights will depart from Seattle Airport on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 15:30, arriving in London Heathrow at 11.45 the next day.

The airline is promoting the new service as an opportunity to cost-effectively travel the western United States and Canada.

"With its accessible nature, active lifestyle and music scene, Seattle is a very similar destination to Iceland. We believe both are growing destinations waiting to be explored.

"And with the option of the Iceland stopover, we hope that passengers will consider combining Seattle and Iceland to make a unique holiday."

The route will be flown by a 183-seat Boeing 757 aircraft.
