Car crash at Stansted injures five women
Wednesday 25th March 2009
A car crash injuring five women from the same family occurred at Stansted Airport on Monday evening (March 23).
A grandmother and her sister, two daughters and a granddaughter, aged from 19 to 68 remarkably only received cuts and bruises when an elderly man collided with them as they were unloading bags from a taxi outside the terminal building at Stansted Airport.
An ambulance was called just after 7.50pm who arrived accompanied by fire and police officers as well as the airport duty management team.
Ann Throw, of the East of England Ambulance Service, said. "Given the scene that we saw, we were surprised we were dealing with relatively minor injuries.
"All were taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow, with various injuries including cuts, bumps, bruising, and possibly arm fractures but none were thought to be in a serious condition and were all able to walk into the ambulances.
"The driver of the car was also taken to hospital with concern for his condition although he was not injured."
