Carbon Quotas To Be Imposed On Airlines
Friday 21st December 2007Ministers at the EU have agreed that measures will be put in place to force airlines to reduce their carbon emissions. The quotas will be imposed to run from 2012.
In response to the agreement the United States has threatened legal action and the airlines have voiced fears that the limits could force some smaller carriers out of business.
It is widely thought that airlines are responsible for 3% of the worldwide carbon emissions produced and have doubled in less than 20 years with the introduction of many budget airlines.
