Don't Lose Your Gifts This Christmas
Friday 21st December 2007Research by insurance group Zurich shows that burglars see the festive season as the ideal time to make the most money possible. Their survey compiled with the help of many ex-thieves indicates that the mix of families out of the house visiting relatives and the abundance of new goods in properties is the ideal opportunity for a thief.
When travelling before or after the Christmas period it is important to remember several points. Your presents may look very attractive sitting under the Christmas tree but if you are travelling and your house is unattended then the present are the perfect invite for a light-fingered visitor. The fact that they can procure goods sealed in their boxes will only aid the ability to sell them for good money. If you are away hide the presents and do not leave them sitting under the tree.
If you are planning to be away after the Christmas period then do not leave empty boxes on tables and in clear view of people outside an empty box saying 'DVD Recorder' is the perfect advert for a thief. Likewise as with credit card statements and bills do not leave boxes and bags outside for the binmen while you are away this is a common mistake made by many and act as the perfect lure for a thief.
We hope these tips are useful to you whilst you are away over the festive season and we hope you take these into account. Let's make sure that the only person that climbs down your chimney or enters through your window this Christmas is the person putting the presents under the tree not taking them away!
