Heathrow Airport Detention Centres Criticised

Tuesday 18th December 2007

Five of the short-term centres designed to hold immigrants for possible deportation have been criticised. They have been described as inadequate and staff at times use inappropriate language according to reports by the prisons watchdog.

The Chief Inspector of Prisons Anne Owers said that conditions were adequate in general however staff had been observed acting in an appropriate manner at Terminal 4 and The Queens Building.
