Stansted Airport Ban Christmas Crackers On Flights

Tuesday 18th December 2007

Christmas crackers have been banned on all flights departing from the Essex airport due to security fears.

A spokesperson for BAA explained "We won't allow them in hand luggage, we would have to open up the crackers and that removes the point of them. Some of them contain penknives and small amounts of liquid which we would also have to check. This is a lot of extra time and work for security, who are already very busy."

Passengers are asked to not bring crackers to the airport as they may be confiscated even in the terminal building as the loud bangs can frighten passengers or set off alarms.
