East Midlands Airport staff are celebrating after scooping Gold at the Green Apple Environment Awards in London that was held last week.
The airport has now been recognised for three years by the Green Apple Organisation for their efforts in the environment.
The entry that allowed East Midlands to win their gold award included developments being made to a six mile perimeter trail that has woodland around it, as well as grassland and a wildflower meadow. When walking on the trail people will be able to see sculptures and art as well as read interpretation boards and use picnic benches. There will also be information available on wildlife and plants.
The managing director of East Midlands Airport Penny Coates commented on the award by saying;
"We are delighted to have been awarded a Green Apple Award for the third consecutive year. The Airport's perimeter trail provides an exhibition platform for local artists, whilst encouraging environmental education for local children."
