Budget carrier Ryanair have announced that they are to base a sixth Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Brussels (Charleroi) as well as creating three new flight routes operating from the 31st of March 2009. The new routes are in response to the Belgian Government scrapping a 10 tax on passengers.
The airline have confirmed however that they are to close their flight routes operating to and from Maastricht in reaction to the tax being imposed by the Dutch tax authorities. These routes will be closed on the 8th of January 2009.
The new aircraft based in Brussels will be operating three return services on a weekly basis running to and from Barcelona Reus as well as Bratislava. There will also be a service operating twice a week to Trieste.
In celebration of the announcement the airline have released one million free seats allowing passengers to travel in Europe in December, January and February. These can be found on ryanair.com.
Commenting on the announcement was Ryanair's Michael Cawley who said;
"Thanks to the Belgian governments decision to listen to the concerns of the business community, the tourism industry, airports and airlines the people of Brussels are celebrating the arrival of a 6th based aircraft and 3 exciting new routes which go on sale today."
