Bristol Airport has teamed up with low-cost flight company Teleticket to take advantage of the extra demand created after the fall of tour operator XL.

Teleticket, a flight only operator, has agreed to increase their capacity to cater for the 200,000 passengers a year that Bristol Airport would miss out on as a result of XL's collapse.

After an emergency South West delegation attended the World Travel Market in London, a deal was struck to increase the number of flights from the airport.

The delegation was made up of senior airport staff and South West Independent Federation of Travel Agents officials who were keen to find a replacement operator.

Bristol International Airport's head of sales, Jason Wescott said "It has been frustrating to hear from travel agents that customers want to fly from Bristol International when booking their holidays but can't because of a lack of availability,"

Teleticket Managing Director, Neil Chapman, said:"If initial sales are successful, we will be looking to introduce further flights to the programme."

Teleticket will be able to offer passengers flights to Tenerife, Lanzarote Corfu, Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt and Larnaca in Cyprus, destinations that were in too heavy demand for Bristol Airport to accommodate.
