Glasgow International Airport Opens Terminal Extension
Thursday 6th November 2008
The end of October saw the launch of the £31 million BAA Glasgow terminal extension.
The new building is the size of a football pitch and has - in total - taken 18 months to construct. The terminal is now opened to passengers and will feature modern security as well as large and well-sticked shops. The main area of interest at the airport is the £12 million security search area that attempts to increase security at the airport and enhance the passenger experience.
The new security search area will be the centrepiece of te brand new extension that measures an impressive 4000 square metres. Included in the new extension is a brand new UK arrivals hall as well as upgraded and new shops as well as more passenger seating.
There is still one phase of the project due to be finished that will include the refurbishing of the current terminal building that will mean the inclusion of new stores stocking fashion accessories as well as more passenger seating and eateries. It is projected that the work will create around 250 new jobs in the retail sector of the airport by spring 2009.
