New Transport System For Heathrow Airport

Monday 17th December 2007

Continuing the development of Heathrow Airport is a new transportation system that promises to be world-class.

Looking more like something out of science fiction than a working system at Heathrow Airport the Personal Rapid Transport System certainly looks impressive. This system consists of small futuristic-looking buggies that carry up to four people and their luggage. They move along a specifically designed road and have zero emissions and are battery powered which is sure to please the green-minded amongst us.

The driverless pods are not only being tested to aid pollution it is also believed that the Personal Rapid Transport System will help to alleviate queuing and reduce waiting times.

Do not expect to see the Personal Rapid Transport System is you are using terminals 1-4 however as it is only being used on a trial basis at Terminal 5 for a year to evaluate its impact, if successful it is hopeful the rest of Heathrow Airport will benefit from the system.
