New Check-In Service Installed At Edinburgh Airport
Monday 29th September 2008
A new system for speeding up check-in queues in is operation at Edinbugh Airport, two weeks after it was announced that it had been installed by the owners - BAA.
Passengers who are travelling with any airline that have taken part in the scheme will be able to check-in at one of ten new desks that work on a self-service basis. They can be found at the Edinburgh Airport check-in hall. The new terminals named Common User Self Service (CUSS) have been installed by BAA in an attempt for greater efficiency of check-in, as well as making the entire process easier for passengers. Airlines involved in the new procedures are Air France and KLM with Flybe scheduled to have the facility in place for their passengers by the end of September.
The brand new technology has cost around £300,000 and involves passengers scanning their passport barcode, credit card or a transaction or frequent flyer number which will prove their identity to the machine. The process then involves a touch-screen system that will print their boarding pass. If there is then baggage to be checked in passengers may continue to the fast bag drop desks.
