Singapore Airlines Reduce Fuel Surcharges

Singapore Airlines have reduced their fuel surcharges on tickets that have been issued from today (9th of September). The reductions will be available on short and medium-haul flights. The decision has been due to a reduction in fuel prices that the airline will be passing on to its customers.

The airline have confirmed that they have constantly reviewed their fuel prices in the wake of a recent rapid increase. They pledged to make "adjustments in response to sustained changes in the price of jet fuel." To illustrate the changes that the airline are making we have listed below the surcharges that will apply to tickets that are purchased from today.

• Singapore to South East Asia cities (ASEAN countries) - reduction in charge from USD40 to USD36, applicable to each sector.
• Singapore to European cities and South Africa also including flights between North America and Hong Kong including Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Frankfurt and Moscow - charges remain at USD110 for each sector.
• Singapore and USA/Canada cities (single-sector) - charges remain at USD180 for each sector.
• All other flights including singapore to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, India, Taiwan, Maldives, Bnagladesh, Sri Lanks, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and United Arab Emirates. Also including flights from Dubai to Istanbul, Dubai to Moscow and Bangkok to Tokyo - reduction in charge from USD110 to USD100, applicable to each sector.

Singapore Airlines are to introduce a four tier system, replacing the older three tier system that allows them to give a clearer distinction between medium and long-haul flights. Despite the airlines move to reduce fuel charges the price of oil still remains very high as the aviation industry struggles to cope with the increased operating costs. The fuel prices have already claimed casualties with the most recent being the budget carrier Zoom.
