Southampton Port has been the scene of a haul of 20,000 illegal cigarettes as well as banned sweets.

A large container at the port was examined by Southampton City Council's Port Health Team who uncovered the contents of it at the Southampton Border Inspection Post.

The container is believed to have arrived on the container ship Chicago Express from the Far East region. It did not contain what is was believed to however, as the official contents had been 18 tonnes of mixed food types.

Not only did the container contain the illegal cigarettes and banned sweets but the inspectors also discovered condensed milk, fish paste and meat. As a result of the find the importer will be informed that they will have to destroy the items and there will be a charge to the importer for the goods which were undeclared.
