Aer Lingus Confirm Commitment To Belfast Airport
Tuesday 2nd September 2008Irish carrier Aer Lingus has confirmed that despite experiencing poor passenger numbers at Belfast Airport they will not be leaving the hub.
The carrier is experiencing problems with its Belfast to Heathrow route which is running at 60,000 less than the route that ran before it from Shannon to Heathrow. The rise in aviation fuel costs is another added problem for the airline, however they have still stated that they will not be leaving Belfast Airport.
The current figures for the new Belfast to Heathrow Airport route indicate that only 109,000 passengers used the route between the 14th of January and June 2008, which was well down on the 170,000 passengers that used the Shannon flight route in the same period of time in 2007.
