Hundreds Of Passengers Stranded As Zoom Airlines Collapses

Friday 29th August 2008

Hundreds of passengers have been left without flights after low-cost carrier Zoom collapsed. Further to our story yesterday that reported on the suspension of two flights by the airline, we can now announce that Zoom have suspended all services after encountering serious financial problems.

According to reports from passengers Zoom aircraft have been prevented from taking off at Glasgow and Cardiff Airports and passengers at other airports the airline operates to and from have also reported problems. If you have tickets to fly with Zoom then you will need to find an alternative route. Zoom have posted an apology to its customers as well as some suggested alternative routes on its website www.flyzoom.com, we would suggest taking a look at these if you have been left stranded or have a flight booked in the near future with the airline.

Zoom began in 2001 and had staff numbers of 450 in Canada and 260 in the UK. Flights ran from Gatwick, Cardiff, Belfast, Manchester, Paris and Rome. The founders of Zoom have expressed their regret at the collapse of the airline and said,

"We deeply regret the fact that we have been forced to suspend all Zoom operations. It is a tragic day for our passengers and more than 600 staff. We are desperately sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment that this will cause passengers and those who have booked flights."

"We have done everything we can to support the airline and left no stone unturned to secure a re-financing package that would have kept our aircraft flying. Even late today we believed we had secured a new investment package to ensure future operations but the actions of creditors meant we could not continue flying. Having been unable to complete the investment package the directors of Zoom had no option but to instigate administration proceedings."

Zoom have also announced that both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic will be offering a special rate for Zoom passengers that have been left stranded by the closure of the airline. For information on alternative routes, refunds and all other associated issues resulting from the collapse of the airline please see www.flyzoom.com.
