Thursday 28th August 2008

A Ryanair aircraft made an emergency landing in Germany on Monday after a passenger onboard became ill after an allergic reaction to a vegetable oil/mushroom soup style liquid that dripped on them from an overhead locker.

According to witnesses the man suffered from a swollen neck and had breathing difficulties leaving the captain no choice but to divert the flight in order that the passenger be given medical treatment. This is in line with Ryanair procedures for medical emergencies onboard their flights.

The flight landed at Frankfurt Hahn Airport to allow the passenger to be treated with all other passengers encountering a delay of two hours before it took off again for Dublin. It remains to be confirmed if the offending liquid was only 100ml as that is all that is permitted to be carried in hand luggage in liquid form.
