Stansted Baggage Handler Strike Fails To Cause Disruption
Tuesday 26th August 2008
A strike by baggage handling staff who scan luggage at Stansted Airport has not affected passengers according to managers.
The strikers are asking for a 5% payrise which so far has not been met with their employer Airfield Services offering just 1.5%. According to the airport managers were brough in to scan luggage during the strike period, however the union is claiming that they were in fact catering staff that were brought in which would be in breach of safety rules.
The union has stated that their representatives will be complaining to the owner of Stansted Airport, BAA about the alleged use of catering staff for the scanning of baggage.
Another strike has been threatened by the union this Thursday unless the pay demands are met and would again run for 24 hours.
