Southampton Airport Introduce New Green Baggage Vehicles

Wednesday 13th August 2008

Southampton Airport will soon be seeing the introduction of six brand new state-of-the-art baggage vehicles.

Powered by electricity, the vehicles emit zero CO2 emissions and will be significantly cleaner than the diesel vehicles they are to replace. Being green does comes at a price however as each vehicle will cost the airport £35,000. Despite this the new vehicles will represent an exceptional 40% of the airports baggage transportation, as well as being completely silent when operated, meaning the airport will be able to boast excellent green credentials from this point forward.

The capacity of the new vehicles is another point in which they excel. The ability to carry 100 pieces of luggage as well as four airport workers means that repeated journeys will be less frequent and thus save on CO2 emissions. The airport are aiming at expanding their fleet when finances allow showing the commitment they have to a greener future for their Southampton Airport.
