East Midlands Local Residents Tackle Airport Night Noise
Wednesday 6th August 2008
Hundreds of East Midlands Airport's local residents have been signing a petition to attempt to tackle the airports night flights.
The residents are asking that East Midlands Airport have the same regulations and restrictions placed upon them as airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. The group that has been formed to tackle the subject is named Demand (Demand East Midlands Airport is Now Designated) and they have managed to get a petition placed on the Downing Street website asking the Government to look at the issue. Currently 375 people have signed the petition.
The issue stems from an increase of 2,000 flights that have occured this year. The figure currently totals 20,000 flights in and out of the airport each year between the hours of 11pm and 7pm. The airport have pledged to do all they can to limit disturbances to local residents and acknowledged the petition put together by the Demand group.
