The airport is owned by BAA Ltd who also operate Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports, amongst others. Since BAA took over the running of Edinburgh Airport in 1971, the site has seen some improvements.
A new air traffic control tower was opened in 2007, improving the efficiency of the air traffic control system, and in 2004 a multi-storey car park was built on the site. This opened up a further 2,000 car parking spaces for the airport. Further improvements are planned and the airport is constantly improving wherever possible.
