Baggage Advice From 7th January 2008
Baggage allowances are to be altered as of the 7th January 2008. Below you will find a breakdown of these new regulations so you can know what to expect on your journey in 2008.
On the 7th January 2008 some UK airports will relax their rules on hand luggage for passengers. Limitations that were placed upon the transportation of liquids will remain in place as well as hand luggage size. Please be aware however that not all UK airports will be altering their allowances as of the 7th of January. We strongly recommend that you call ahead to both your airport and airline before travelling as even if your airport has changed its regulations the airline may not have done. For example Easyjet will continue with the one bag rule regardless of the airport they are flying from.
The previous limitations on liquids will remain in place with passengers only permitted to carry liquids in containers that are 100ml or under. These liquids must be taken to the security area in their container which must be placed in a single clear re-sealable bag that is NO MORE than 1 litre in capacity.
The definitions of a liquid are as below:
- Gels (eg. shaving gel)
- Pastes (eg. toothpaste)
- Liquid-solid mixtures (eg. food stuffs)
- Lotions (eg. sun-tan lotion and moisturiser)
Please note that any liquid or paste inside its packaging such as in a pressurised container still counts towards your liquid allowance.
As before medicine is permitted if it is essential for the flight however must be verified by the owner that it is genuine which sometimes requires the tasting of the medicine or the operating of any medical equipment.
Baby food and baby milk will still be permitted, however must be tasted by the adult travelling with the child.
As before once passengers are through security they may buy products such as liquids and gels in larger quantities and take them on the flight.
Baggage
From January the cabin baggage size will remain the same as before; 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22in x 17.7in x 9.8in). The previous regulations in place that are currently listed on our site prior to January 7th 2008 will still apply, however it is thought that the limitation of 1 cabin bag per passenger may be relaxed. It will no longer be necessary to carry other bag contents within the main single cabin bag.
Please note that all electrical items will still require scanning such as laptops, mobile phones and even electrical items such as hairdryers. As before musical instruments are permitted but must be screened individually. Please note that any walking aids, wheelchairs and other pieces of equipment must be scanned or searched before they are allowed on the aircraft.
